Lake Norman is inextricably tied to the History of Charlotte, North Carolina and Mecklenburg County which were both named after the queen consort of Great Britain, Charlotte of Mecklenburg. Although named after a British queen, General Cornwallis of England found the Charlotte area residents hostile and called the area a hornets nest of rebellion. Obviously the people here were proud of that distinction as they kept the nickname 'The Hornets.' During the Civil War, many citizens contributed to the Confederate cause. The area was instrumental in producing and transporting supplies. After the war Charlotte and the area remained a cotton processing and railroad hub.

SPECIALIZED ENTERTAINMENT ALL AROUND THE LAKE NORMAN AREA

Living in the community you are never far from The Charlotte Motor Speedway, the crowning jewel of the NASCAR system. Or go to Charlottes NASCAR Hall of Fame. A new NHRA drag strip has recently been added to the area also. Want to see some NFL?
